Bob Levey, Senior Media Strategist, is an award-winning Washington Post journalist of thirty-six years standing, in addition to being a television and radio host and college professor.
For twenty-three years, Mr. Levey’s daily “Bob Levey’s Washington” column for The Post has explored all facets of life inside the beltway, earning the author a place among the most popular columnists in the nation’s capital, as named by Washingtonian magazine, seven times. In 1999, the magazine heralded him as Washingtonian of the Year in honor of the community service function of his column, and separately for his work as a hands-on volunteer. Earlier in his career at The Post, Mr. Levey covered Presidential politics, Congress, local news and sports.
Over more than two decades, Mr. Levey has worked for seven radio stations, four TV stations and a popular Internet site as a commentator and talk show host. In 1994, he received the accolade of Radio Talk Show Host of the Year in the Washington market, and two years later Talkers Magazine designated him one of the most important radio talk show hosts in America.
Mr. Levey has also pursued a career in higher education and currently holds the Hardin Chair of Excellence in the Department of Journalism at The University of Memphis. He was previously a visiting professor and/or adjunct professor at Duke University, George Washington University, Catholic University and the University of Maryland, plus a Woodrow Wilson Foundation Fellow at twenty-four small liberal arts colleges across the United States. Mr. Levey has been a member of the University of Chicago’s Alumni Board for ten years, two of which years he served as president and three he served as Washington-area chair for the university’s campaign efforts.
In 2000, Washington Post Books published Washington Album: A Pictorial History of the Nation’s Capital, a two hundred page illustrated history of the local city, co-authored by Levey and his wife, historian Jane Freundel Levey. Levey is the author of two other books, a collection of columns and a look at local Washington.
In his spare time, Mr. Levey has been a semi-professional folk singer, a union president and a six-time regional champion bridge player. He and his wife are parents to Emily and Alexander.
