Higher Ed Marketing Business Development Associate

As SimpsonScarborough’s Business Development Associate, you’ll be an essential part of the Sales and Marketing team, supporting our ability to secure new business and grow our agency in an efficient manner. At SimpsonScarborough, a successful Business Development Associate will inform and write many high-quality winning proposals and pitches. This position will report directly to CMO and be located in our headquarters office in Alexandria, VA. Responsibilities will include but likely not be limited to:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead or participate in new business inquiries and associated responses by:
    • Recommending project approach in outline form (knowledge of market research and higher ed marketing a plus);
    • Vetting approach with one of the following: CMO, CEO, COO, VPs, AVPs or Senior Strategists;
    • Drafting proposal using a combination of existing proposal text and original content detailing: discovery, market research design, brand development (platform, concept, guidelines, brand launch), include relevant qualifications, pricing, and references; and
    • Managing pitch development process by organizing relevant and existing content, coordinating proposed project team input and creative designers as pitch is created.
  • Support account-based sales and marketing approach, refining an efficient process supporting sales efforts within multiple channels (web-based inquiries, conference inquiries, direct inquiries created by project team, RFPs, etc.)

 The experience and skills you should bring to the position include: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required, degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or related field 
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of work experience, preferably in at least one of the following: market research, proposal preparation or branding/digital account management 
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Excel and PowerPoint specifically), project management software, and other technology tools 
  • Knowledge of Hubspot and InDesign preferred 
  • Ability to organize and prioritize efforts within a schedule of multiple weekly deadlines 
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to multitask 
  • Strong writing and editorial skills 
  • Strong organizational and communication skills 
  • Extremely organized and detail-oriented with strong follow-up skills 
  • Strong initiative & personal responsibility for work 
  • Willingness and desire to work very independently 
  • Positive, enthusiastic team-player attitude
